Introduction: Tobacco use remains a critical public health concern globally, with approximately 1.3 billion users reported as of 2021.
Aim: The aim is to assess the impact of a public awareness programme on enhancing knowledge about the harmful effects of tobacco among users.
Methods: Quantitative research approach and preexperimental research design was selected for this study. Total 150 samples were selected. Data collection was carried out with pre validated interview schedule for knowledge of participants.
Results: The study findings revealed a significant improvement in knowledge levels after the intervention: adequate knowledge on basic awareness increased from 14% to 36%, on health consequences from 6% to 43%, and on prevention and management from 0% to 32%, demonstrating the effectiveness of the public awareness programme.
Conclusions: The study concluded that public awareness programme successfully raised understanding about tobacco's harmful effects.
